The Philadelphia Inquirer Needs a Copy Editor

Whoops

Whoops.

The Role of a Copy Editor: Lesson 1

The copy editor does not exist only to correct grammatical errors, but to query instances where logic is absent from the text.

Today’s offender: Joint effort between the Philadelphia Inquirer and Macy’s.

Sighting: November 2nd, the morning after a game in which even a Phillies win would not have clinched the World Series, let alone a 7—4 loss

Potential query: (Write queries neatly and tactfully in the margin of a proof or manuscript, using erasable colored pencil and perhaps a sticky note. When addressing your query, “Ed” may stand in for “Editor.”) Ed: Seems Phillies have not won World Series. Ad premature?

I’m pretty sure printing that was the ultimate jinx on the Phillies. Not that we need it…
