“American”: Ginger Ale

I love ginger ale, especially when I’m traveling and the stomach can feel a bit wobbly. But is it American?

Wikipedia says yes (but also, confusingly, no—note discrepancy between body text and sidebar). About.com credits both the Irish and the Canadians. This site tells me how to make my own, which I find intriguing, except for the part about being wary of explosions. And, OK, also the fact that the recipe says to start with an empty two-liter soda bottle…

Well, maybe there is French ginger ale, or Italian ginger ale. Making your own would be fun, especially if it explodes!
